The client requested an inspiring and hopeful cover that should also be peaceful and comforting.
I’ve chosen to create a very serene and clean design but full of meaning: the two lotus flowers that are the main spot of color (with a vibrant tone of fuchsia) represent the search for love between two people.")

Apart from some hairdresser instruments that are always placed on the back cover of all the books in this series, one of the requests of the author was to incorporate a large flower garden where some of the action takes place. The flowers also helped to represent and reinforce the title, changing some of them to a blood color.")

Despite her target audience being usually attracted by models of the opposite sex, as the story is developed around a strong woman, it made sense to make her the focal point.
The request was to represent her as a sophisticated and powerful character, but that could also transmit a sense of sensuality, which is one of the more important aspects of this author’s books.
The draped fabrics on the photos, as well as the particular blue tone that was chosen, helped to achieve the requested style, as well as to keep a consistency in all the books of this series.")

The story takes place from modern day London to the ancient wisdom of China.
The author requested a design that could transmit a relaxed and peaceful feeling, but that could also catch the attention and curiosity of the viewers.
The Yellow Mountains in China was the landscape chosen to illustrate the journey of the book.
The cherry blossom also represents the inner development throughout the entire story.")

Although the author didn't have any specific requirements at the beginning of the process, she had a preference for a \"woodsy look/feel\".
A lot of the action takes place in the small log house on a lake in Minnesota, where the main character lives. The author wanted to show how that home was her sanctuary. So, the chairs on the deck in front of the lake helped to transmit that idea.
There is also a detail in the back cover that appears in all the books of this series — the inclusion of some hairdresser instruments, to better make the connection with the main theme.")

As this is the first book of a set of several new series, the author requested a slight different approach, in relation to what had already been done on the previous books, as long as it would fit her already very well known brand.
When I made the research of the publishing design trends within this genre I noticed that, whenever there's a cover with an image in a big scale, it stands out from the others in an incredible way, specially when they have a face looking at the viewer.
I immediately remembered how the eyes of the models (and a particular gaze) is one of the details that identify so many of this author’s books — the direct look at the reader, that catches the attention and also seduces, is almost her trademark.")

One of the requests from the author was to have a dark deep cover with strong colors, but also quite simple.
In my design I played with the contrast between the innocence of the child and her teddy bear, with the heavy and stormy clouds that transmit a very dramatic feeling.")

This is a story about the search for a magic sword, which needed to figure prominently on the cover. The descriptions of the author leaded to a Viking style, with a touch of horror and almost alien feel.
In the design I wanted to transmit that the sword had special characteristics, a unique piece, that would seem almost “alive”.
However it wasn’t easy to decide where the main details should be placed, in order to keep it “usable”, as it were a real sword that is meant to be handled and strong enough to fight a battle.
The eyes in the background and the big red moon helped to give the desired impact.")

I've recreated the atmosphere of that time, not only through the costumes of the characters but also with the dark and mysterious environment.
The contrast between the intense lights and the shadows transmits the dramatic feeling that was required.")

In this story the group is very bored in the rainforest, when they realize that they can use their imagination to go anywhere they like.
In this book, Katrina Maxwell leads children (ages 3-8) to use their imagination and yoga moves to travel to a new place and have some fun. The author is a Speech-Language Pathologist & Children's Yoga Instructor with a passion for education and travel.
All the illustrations were created by another artist, that made a fantastic job giving life to each character. I was extremely careful to keep the book layout/typesetting and the cover design completely faithful to that initial work.
The simplicity of the book cover design was also meant to make those characters stand out, as well as to introduce the author, her brand and her work to all the potential readers.")

The author had already in mind a specific scene described in the first chapter. To follow the writing, the angel needed to have an etheric appearance, while the little girl had to be seen as being “more real”.
Although there were already some references regarding the appearance of the characters, I had some freedom to “create” them in a way that could be interesting for the viewers, adding some details.
The atmosphere that surrounds them was also a very important aspect of the entire design, with the sunlight that comes through the trees. The mist was already part of the image chosen for the background, but the colors and contrasts had to be completely changed in order to make the whole imagery balanced and believable.
One of the other details requested by the author was to give a big impact to the main title “44”. The effects and colors helped to make it stand out and, at the same time, to match the rest of the design.")

The main idea was to represent caveman drawings in a very simple way and products that were used at that time... but also in our days.
The first one — “Kuchyňa Pračloveka” (Caveman's Kitchen) — is an untraditional cookbook focused on the choice of ingredients and kitchen skills/practices rather than just recipes.
The second publication is an ebook — \"Desatoro Prikázaní Moderného Pračloveka\" — that basically means \"The 10 Commandments of the Modern Caveman\". Following this line of thought, the author requested something related with the religious meaning of the title. Therefore, I used the idea of the stones of the 10 Commandments described in the Bible.
It was also important for the author to keep the “caveman illustrations” separated in two zones — the day and the night. At the center, the squatting silhouette represents the meditation and balance.")

Katrina Maxwell wrote this book for younger children (ages 0-5) but always keeping the same yoga theme. The author is a Speech-Language Pathologist & Children's Yoga Instructor with a passion for education and travel.
The illustrations, created by another artist, also had this specific audience in mind. Therefore, the original characters have a more youthful appearance in this book.
In the typesetting project, I specifically chose different placements for the texts in order to keep the children’s attention, as well as to make the book more fun to read.
On the book cover I extended the wave to the back, to give it a leading role throughout the design. It also helped to distribute all the information that needed to be displayed, as well as to keep the entire exterior of the book completely balanced.")

For that, I included the image of a pocket watch, similar to the one that was being used as a chapter symbol in the interior of the book. This way there is always a consistent theme and imagery in the entire book (in the inner and outer zones).
I also wanted to represent the “start of a new day”, not only in a sense of time but also as a new opportunity to be with God, that can be achieved despite the busy life.
The rising sun was a good way to transmit that message and also to give it that “eternal” sense (the sun rises everyday… no matter what). It also helps to give a very positive feeling to the entire design, as being a joyful invitation to join in these daily 100 Minutes of reflection.")

He is invited to join a training program, set in a specialized summer camp called Campus Gaea, where he will be able to improve his skills and grow into a powerful member of the Band of Fire.
The request of the author was to represent James in the environment of Campus Gaea (a scouting style camp), following some characteristics of the tents (colors, shape, placement) in order to match the descriptions on the book.
The wolf (a character that guards the camp) and the Phoenix (a beautiful, flame red colored, large bird that is James companion) were also some of the requested details.")

My approach was connected with the book's purpose: to be a “gift” for mothers such as Mother's day or their birthday.
Gifts have the objective of making people we care about feel appreciated. So, why not to “wrap” the book to make it look exactly like a gift? This way the intention of sons/daughters is perfectly clear and “visible”, and the joy of moms by receiving it can be even stronger. They would feel that they didn’t just receive a book… but a deserved “gift”.
My idea was also to create a design style that could be suitable for all the ages. With this idea the book can be an offer for a mom with a newborn baby, as well as to an elderly mother that receives this gift from her already adult sons.
As the client requested, I also had in mind that the design should be easily adapted to other members of the family: dad, grandma, grandpa… The idea of “the gift” can be continued, changing colors and some of the elements.")

The graphic effects on the main title make the connection with the chrome of the motorcycles, as well as the background texture lead us to the black leather jackets.")

As this is the first activities book that the author wants to release, the first part of the project was to create a graphic line that could continue in future publications, keeping the entire series with a consistent image.
The author had already consigned all the illustrations to another artist, which were delivered isolated. This gave me complete freedom to create the interior book layout and add all the necessary details.
The same happened for the book cover, where, in addition to displaying the author’s brand, I wanted to make it perfectly clear that this was also a coloring book, as all the internal illustrations were created as line art only.
This makes this publication not only educational but also fun.")

This is a Fantasy series, potentially marked as YA but that also has a lot of violent action and adventure.")

The design shows one of the scenes of the story, when the main character finds a chest in a tower containing the Vampire Queen's heart... but then a spider as large as a dog attacks.
The details that I added to the wooden chest, not only help to place the story within medieval times, but they also give a strange and mysterious appearance to this unique piece, as it had been requested by the author.
All the book covers of this series are substantially different but they all have the same strange and menacing atmosphere.")

A Kid’s Guide to Saving Money, Spending Wisely, and Investing in the Stock Market” is targeted towards kids (ages 8-12) and their parents. It can be classified as a sort of mix between a nonfiction self-help and an educational book for children.
The challenge was to illustrate financial concepts, designing a fun interior layout to keep kids engaged and focused on the subjects presented.
In addition to various financial themes and advices, the book incorporates worksheets, chapter summaries and the story of the “Thrifty Tortoise vs Ritzy Rabbit” race. These two funny characters and scenes were created by the talented Adrian Doan Kim, who also designed the book cover. I did all the other illustrations while creating the internal layout, to better balance all the elements and achieve a consistent look throughout the book.
The entire project was very engaging and fun to work with, helped by the excellent communication with the author.")

The illustration symbolizes Pros There IT experts and how quickly they get to wherever they are needed. The funny thing is that all computers/servers fear their arrival, as they can no longer create the usual problems.
In short, this is a joke about how tech devices like to mess up our daily routines and how Pros There experts are the best solution to fix them.
This could be a good message to get across to customers, but in this case it’s a funny way of telling employees that they’re doing a good job, motivating them to continue on that path throughout the year.
I repeated the illustration in both sides, as it gives the possibility to be seen for both right and left-handers. It also allows people to visualize the characters if they are in front of whoever is using the mug, making a good conversation topic during work breaks.")
